Reward steps

The rewards bar shows shoppers how close they are to the next reward. Add up to four steps, measured by cart total or by number of items, each with a minimum and one of these:

• Free shipping: your cheapest shipping rate is free once the cart reaches the step. Faster rates, like express, keep their price.
• Percentage off: for example 10% off the order.
• Amount off: for example $10 off the order.
• Free gift: one of your gifts (below), unlocked by the step.
• Message only: a milestone with no discount, for something you handle yourself.

Each step's message can use {remaining} and {reward}, as in You're {remaining} away from {reward}. When a cart reaches more than one percentage or amount step, the highest one applies. Free gifts never count toward the total, so a gift can't push a cart over a step. Shoppers paying in another currency see each step converted at Shopify's own rate.

Free gifts with purchase

Create up to ten gifts. Each one has:

• What unlocks it: a cart amount, buying any of the products you choose (with a minimum quantity), a code the shopper enters, or a reward step.
• The gift: one product added for the shopper, or up to six for them to choose from.
• How many: up to ten gift units per order.
• A message: shown when the gift unlocks, such as "Free gift unlocked".

Gifts start as drafts. A gift can only go live once it's complete, with a gift product picked and whatever unlocks it set. If something's missing, Luv Cart keeps it as a draft and tells you what to add.

How a code opens the gift chooser

Give a gift a code (3 to 40 letters, numbers, dashes or underscores) and share it in an email, a post or a popup. When a shopper enters the code in the drawer's discount field, the drawer adds the gift, or opens Choose your free gift when you offer more than one, and the gift comes off at checkout. Ask shoppers to enter the code in the cart, where the gift can be added. Two live gifts can't share a code.

Luv Cart creates and manages the discount

You never make a matching discount by hand. Luv Cart keeps your Shopify discounts in step with what you set in the app:

• One automatic discount, Luv Cart rewards, carries every reward step and every gift unlocked by a cart amount, products or a step.
• Each live code gift gets its own code discount, using the code you chose.

You'll see them on Shopify's Discounts page. Make changes in Luv Cart rather than there, because the app keeps them in step. Switching a gift or a step off pauses its discount; nothing is deleted, so switching it back on brings it back as it was.

The checkout checks every gift and step again. A gift is only free when the cart really earned it, only for the gift products you picked, and only up to the number you allow; a shopper who adds the gift product some other way pays for it. If Shopify hasn't confirmed that a discount is active, the drawer doesn't show that step or gift, so it never promises something the checkout won't give. Luv Cart shows each gift's status, with the reason when something needs fixing.

Combining with your other discounts

Luv Cart's discounts are set to combine with product, order and shipping discounts. Shopify only combines two discounts when both allow it, so if you want your other discounts to stack with gifts and rewards, open them in Shopify and tick the matching Combinations boxes.

Shopify allows 25 function discounts (discounts run by an app, like these) per store. Luv Cart uses one for all your automatic rewards and gifts, plus one for each live code gift.
